    Thinking of picking figs from one of the many trees on our campus? Please wait!  All of our trees on our campus are part of the University of Maryland's Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, and as such, are community trees, intended for everyone to enjoy.

  • Mountain Gordlinia

    These two Mountain Gordlinia trees (x Gordlinia) were planted in the fall of 2019 on Tawes Plaza.  They are an intergeneric hybrid between Gordonia and Franklinia.  This hybrid does appear to have hybrid vigor as we have had problems trying to grow both of the parents in the past.

    Notice anything different in front of Hornbake Library? We recently completed a renovation of Frederick Douglass Square. This award-winning landscape design is filled with Maryland native plants, to honor one of Maryland's greatest men, Frederick Douglass. These perennial plants include variegated palm sedge, blue fescue, Walkers Low cat mint, North wind blue switchgrass, and Goldstrum black eyed susans.
