College Park Garden

college park garden through archway

On the northwest side of Tawes Hall, a small garden area provides a quiet to place to study, read, meet, or just enjoy the changing seasons. This is the College Park Garden. The garden was done by Siah Armanjani, a sculptor well known in his field but with no direct link to the University as far as we can tell, through an Art in Public Places grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in the early 1980's. Siah Armajani is an Iranian-born American sculptor who is known for his outdoor art, especially gardens, gazebos, plazas, and bridges. His work has been installed and exhibited world-wide and is in the collections of such notable institutions as the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The sculpture and garden at the University of Maryland has been part of the landscape since 1985 and is registered in the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Art Inventories Catalog, listed here
