Miss Kim Manchurian Lilac

Miss Kim Manchurian Lilac

The Manchurian lilac is best known for its cultivar, 'Miss Kim'. This medium-to-large-sized shrub is best grown in average, well-drained soils and in full sun, requiring good air circulation and little maintenance. The fragrant lilac flowers grow on branch tips where they are in dense, terminal clusters up to three inches long, and bloom in May. These flowers also attract hummingbirds and butterflies. The dark green leaves turn burgundy in the fall. The genus name, Syringa, comes from the Greek word syrinx meaning tube or pipe. This is a reference to the pith-filled but easily-hollowed stems of related plants within the same genus.
