Walk Maryland Day with a New StoryMap!
The COVID-19 pandemic has helped highlight the importance of walking as a critical aspect of human well-being, not only for transportation and access, but active recreation and exercise. This year, the UMD Department of Transportation Services, UMD Recreation & Wellness, UMD Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, UMD Residential Life , and UMD Office of Sustainability are partnering to promote Walk Maryland Day, October 7, 2020. Celebrate our official state exercise by exploring our new storymap and find a new corner of campus to emjoy! Use the toolkit here to find more tips and activities!
Walk Maryland is a celebration of our official state exercise--walking! It's also a call to action to promote awareness about regular walking all year round for physical activity and improved health, engaging Marylanders with fun walks of all sizes and shapes. October 7 marks the 6th Annual Walk Maryland Day celebration where we celebrate our annual theme - "Walk Towards Wellness". All Marylanders are encouraged to "Walk Towards Wellness" by taking time on that day to participate in some type of physical activity (ex., walking).
Even though October 7 is the official Walk Maryland Day, we encourage everyone to walk all month as part of Walktober. The point is to get up, get out, and get active every day!
