Dedicated Trees

Many trees have been donated to our Arboretum in recognition of a person, organization, or event. Click on the image below to learn more about these dedicated trees. If you are interested in contributing to our campus collection, please Email Us and include your name, contact information, and the reason for the dedication so that we may add the information to this page in the future.

Class of 1997 Redbud

The tree contributed by the Class of 1997 can be found in the Garden of Reflection and Remembrance, just a few feet from the redbud donated by the Class of 1996. It is also Forest Pansy redbud.

Flowering redbud

A redbud is dedicated to College Park Scholars - Environment, Technology, & Economy on the Wooded Hillock.

Compton's Tree

A Texas redbud on campus is dedicated to Dr. Reid Compton, the former director of the College Park Scholars Life Sciences Program for 10 years and the current Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Department of Biology.

Dahms Tree

On campus, there is a Kousa Dogwood dedicated to Robert “Bob” Dahms, Jr.

Dawson's Tree A sweetgum is dedicated to Thomas Charles Dawson, who earned two bachelor’s degrees at the University of Maryland.
Dining Services Tree

A Natchez crepe myrtle honors members of the Dining Services staff who have passed away while in service to the University.

Driskell Tree

A columnar Eastern white pine is dedicated to David C. Driskell, a Distinguished University Professor of Art, Emeritus, as well as an artist, curator, and art historian.

Fitzgerald Tree

A serviceberry is dedicated to Kennedy Michael Fitzgerald, a student of Environmental Sciences in the UMD Honors Program.

Frtiz tree

A black gum is dedicated to John Fritz of Annapolis, MD who earned a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering at University of Maryland’s A. James Clark School.

Green's Tree

A 'Yellow Bird' magnolia on campus is dedicated to Kelley Green, an accomplished environmental lawyer, advocate and philanthropist.
