Paperbark Maple

Paperbark Maple

Although native to the forests of central China, the paperbark maple stands out on campus with a copper to reddish-brown bark that peels into large curls. This tree features green trifoliate leaves with a bluish-gray or green underside. In the fall, this tree's leaves turn to bright shades of orange and red, along with yellow flowers blooming in the spring. These trees grow best in moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade environments.
