Red Buckeye

The Red Buckeye is native to Illinois and is most noticeable due to its 4-10 inch long panicles of red tubular flowers that bloom in the spring that attract hummingbirds. Its smooth seed capsules hold 1-3 shiny buckeye seeds that are poisonous and avoided by wildlife. These trees are most easily grown in average, well-drained, moist, and rich soils in part shade to full sun and are susceptible to a disease called leaf blotch.
