Anthony Kyle was born in Washington DC and grew up in the DC area. After graduation, he came to work at the University of Maryland and retired as a grounds supervisor in Building & Landscape Management after 31 years of service to our campus community. He passed away on November 14, 2020. He was a quiet but dedicated member of the team and is sorely missed.
About the Three-Flower Maple
The tree chosen to honor Anthony Kyle is an Acer triflorum, planted on October 1, 2022 with members of his family as well as the Facilities Management staff in attendance. It is located at the traffic circle at the Center for Young Children. This maple provides winter interest with outstanding exfoliating bark, ash-brown to golden amber, according to Manual of Woody Landscape Plants by Michael Dirr. The leaves have rich yellow and reds in the fall which can create an overall effect of an orange tree. It is a non-native tree, from northern China and Korea and was first introduced to the US in 1923. This tree was chosen for its incredible beauty.
