About the Fort McNair Red Horse Chestnut
Aesculus × carnea 'Fort McNair' The red horse chestnut is known for its tall panicles of pink flowers that are quite dense. The tree remains medium height throughout its life, making it a good specimen for small spaces. This deciduous tree has lovely golden yellow fall color as well. It does well in urban sites and is also deer resistant. This is not an edible chestnut and the seeds should not be eaten. The tree was donated by Mitch Reider, a family friend and fellow college basketball enthusiast.
