Student Service Learning Hours (SSL)

Does your student need Student Service Learning hours? Volunteer with us!

See our Events Page for upcoming dates and times. Weather cancellations will be posted on the garden's Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/umdclgarden/

We are an approved site for SSL hours through the Montgomery County Volunteer Center. Students have an opportunity work in the Community Learning Garden, which grows fresh produce for our Campus Pantry.

Volunteers are expected to wear clothing that can get dirty and closed-toe shoes, as well as bring the appropriate forms to confirm their time with us. We will provide gloves, tools, supervision, and reflection time. Volunteers under the age of 14 will need a parent or guardian to volunteer with them. During the summer, we highly recommend bringing water to drink and wearing sunscreen and/or sun-protective clothing and a hat.

The Community Learning Garden is located between the Eppley Recreation Center and the School of Public Health. It is searchable on Google Maps and there is paid parking adjacent to the garden. Free parking is usually available on Saturdays in Lot 6, also known as the Terrapin Trail Garage. Our campus is also connected to the Metro's Green Line via the UMD Shuttle Bus 104 route, which does not require a UMD ID to ride. Many Metrobus route also run through campus, such as the C2, F6, and more.
