Gardens

Our campus is filled with gardens that feature a wide variety of plants, trees, and shrubs. Many of these locations have been designated as pollinator gardens or native plant gardens, although these can be found throughout our landscaping. Search below to find the gardens close to you!

South Campus Dining Hall Pollinator Garden Close Up The South Campus Dining Hall Pollinator Gardens were added in the summer of 2025. Funded by Dining Services through a University of Maryland Sustainability Fund grant, the Arboretum & Botanical Gardens collaborated on plant selection and design and will care for the gardens.
St. Mary's Language Hall Garden The St. Mary’s Garden, located alongside St. Mary’s Hall and across from Stamp Student Union, is an integral part of the Language House living-learning immersion program.
Tawes Plaza Garden

What makes us choose to linger in one space or pass quickly through another? Amenities will help us to pause, such as benches and seat walls; the sheltering shade of the tree canopy; perhaps the sound of water. Yet without a diversity of plants to punctuate the seasons, a landscape may never be a garden.

Chef's Garden 1 The Chef’s Garden, located in front of the Stamp Student Union, offers fresh and local herbs that can be used by our campus chefs and Campus Pantry participants.
Weber Memorial Garden Installed in the fall of 2018 on the south side of the Physical Sciences Complex, this garden honors the work of Professor Joseph Weber (1919-2000).
Woods Hall Rain Garden The Woods Hall Rain Garden was implemented in partnership with the Anacostia Watershed Society and completed in 2011 as a way to manage stormwater runoff during high rain events.
