University of Maryland Receives Ninth Consecutive Tree Campus USA Recognition

Tree Campus USA Logo

This spring, the University of Maryland received the 2016 Tree Campus USA® recognition. This is the ninth consecutive year the campus has been awarded this distinction. Tree Campus USA, a national program launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation, honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation. To obtain this distinction, the University of Maryland met the five core standards for sustainable campus forestry required by Tree Campus USA, including establishment of a tree advisory committee, evidence of a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance and the sponsorship of student service-learning projects. This award serves to underscore the commitment of our staff, faculty, and students to sustained environmental stewardship and the cultivation of our campus where we live and work.
