About Meghan Price

Meghan Elizabeth Price, a 20 year old senior at UMD, was fatally injured on December 29th, 1998 after her car swerved into another oncoming car due to wet terrain. Meghan’s passenger, 78 year old Carl Talmadge Johnson, who was Meghans grandfather, also died at the crash. Meghan was an avid political enthusiast. Most who knew her described her as very focused, hard-driving, and goal-oriented. She ran for vice president of campus affairs in her junior year and beat her opponents by a considerable margin. Her involvement in student issues across campus led to respect from both her peers and professors. “[Meghan] will be missed. It will be very challenging to replace her in her work with the {student government association}. More than anything else, she was a very special person," exclaims Debbie Yow, one of the university faculty that worked with Meghan very closely. In her remembrance, a scholarship fund was set up for outstanding low income students.

 About the Dogwood

This tree is a Golden Glory Cornelian cherry dogwood, Cornus mas ‘Golden Glory’. It flowers very early in the spring, surrounded by four downy, boat-shaped bracts. The flowers can be in bloom for up to three or four weeks. The tree has exfoliating bark, making it an interesting feature of the winter landscape as well. It is a rather durable member of the dogwood family, making it an excellent choice for a university campus.
