Stellar Pink Dogwood
The stellar pink dogwood, also known as Cornus x rutgersensis, is a hybrid plant originally produced by Elwin R. Orton, Jr. for Rutgers University in a series of hybrid dogwoods called 'Stellar'. These trees grow best in medium moisture, well-drained, acidic soils in full sun to part shade. They are best known for their large, bracted flowers. The true flowers are the yellowish-green clusters in the center, which are surrounded by four large pink bracts, giving the appearance of a petaled flower. The species is also resistant to many serious dogwood diseases such as dogwood anthracnose, dogwood borer, and powdery mildew.
