This sculpture is located outside the main entrance doors to the Eppley Recreation Center on north campus. It was created by Maryland artist Eloy Areu as part of a class taught by Foon V. Sham, "Art in Public Places." Eloy Areu retired from the University of Maryland in 2007 after almost 33 years of service in the area of IT student services and was the director of the unit for 27 years. Mr. Areu was also a fine artist for over 30 years, specializing in painting and drawing, and more recently, in sculpture as well.
Mr. Areu passed away in 2017.
