The Arboretum strives to highlight the artwork scattered across our campus in the listing below. If you have more information about any of the pieces listed, or you see a work missing from the list, please email us. 

Blues Bird

Blues Bird Located near The Clarice on the Northwest Corner Presidential Drive is the Blues Bird. The Blues Bird is symbolic in that it is the Prince Georges County (PG) bird, which is why it was originally used by artists to make new work of art and to help bring more visitors to PG county.

Bradford

Bradford Sculpture Bradford, a metal sculpture in front of the Chemistry Building was created by Lila Katzen and given to the University by George Snow, professor of physics from 1958 to 1992, and his wife Lila.

College Park Garden

On the northwest side of Tawes Hall, a small garden area provides a quiet to place to study, read, meet, or just enjoy the changing seasons. This is the Armajani Sculpture & Garden.

Conversation I

Conversation 1 Conversation I, a sculpture at The Clarice, was installed and dedicated in 2018.

David’s Dream

David's Dream A University of Maryland center that has long celebrated African American art inside its walls has now expanded outdoors, with the unveiling Thursday of a massive abstract sculpture of stainless steel disks, buttressed by curved legs and encumbered with a massive chain.

Diversity in Unity

Peace Tree Diversity in Unity is a bronze sculpture by Chinese artist Han Meilin and is the centerpiece of the Peace & Friendship Garden on the western edge of campus.

Dwelling: Paint Branch Creek

Bee Wall The solitary bee wall, an art installation titled Dwelling: Paint Branch Creek, and its adjoining pollinator garden allows the University of Maryland community to learn more about bees.

Family Reunion

Family Reunion bird sculpture Family Reunion, part of the Prince George's County "Birds-I-View" promotion, sponsored by the Prince George's Arts Council, sit outside the Center for Young Children on north campus.

Frederick Douglass Square

Frederick Douglas Statue - side view Dedicated in 2015, this garden prominently honors one of Maryland’s greatest native sons, Frederick Douglass, on Hornbake Plaza.

Jim Henson Statue and Memorial Garden

Jim Henson and Kermit Statue in the Memorial Garden This garden features a bronze statue of Kermit the Frog perched on a red granite bench with creator and Maryland alumnus Jim Henson.
