The China fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata), from Central China can be found on the University of Maryland Campus at H.J. Patterson. The China fir grows best with medium amounts of water and a full amount of sun with tolerance for a little shade. Soil conditions that it prefers include easily drained and acidic soils. The approximate height of this tree is 30 to 70 feet and the approximate width is 10 to 30 feet.

The China fir consists of needles for its leaves that are 2.75 inches in length and are blue and green in color. Along with the needles, the China fir has fruiting cones that are 1.5 inches and are in groups of 1 to 3 cones at  a time. The bark of the tree is brown and red. The China fir is a medium maintenance tree  and does not have any major pest or disease problems.
